Some companies talk about treating customers like family. For Kazdin Pools & Spas, that’s not a tagline, it’s how this business has worked since the day it started. Founded in Southampton in 1972 by George Kazdin, and now led by his daughter Julie, Kazdin Pools & Spas is one of the longest-running family-owned pool companies on the East End of Long Island. For more than 50 years, we’ve been the team that Hamptons homeowners trust with something they love, their pool.

By the Numbers

Kazdin Pools about us

Where It Started: George Kazdin

George Kazdin

George Kazdin didn’t come to the pool business by accident. He holds a doctorate in Marine Biology from Southampton College, a man who spent years studying water at its most complex. But while academia was part of his path, pools were always his work. He’d spent his college years in the industry, and when the time came to build something of his own, he came back to what he knew.

In 1972, George founded Kazdin Pools & Spas in Southampton. From the beginning, he built the company around a simple set of values: do the work right, treat every property like your own, and build relationships that last. Those values didn’t come from a business school, they came from someone who understood both the science of water and the trust a homeowner places in you when they hand you the key to their backyard.

More than five decades later, those values are still the foundation of everything Kazdin does.

The Next Generation: Julie Kazdin

Julie Kazdin

Julie Kazdin grew up in this business. As a kid, she was at the shop. In high school and college, she worked retail for the family company. She knew the rhythms of pool season before she knew what a career was.

But like a lot of second-generation business owners, she wanted to find her own way first. After earning her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bryant University, Julie set her sights on the corporate world, a Fortune 500 company, climbing up the ladder, something completely her own.

It didn’t take long for her to realize what she’d left behind.

“If we did something wrong, I could make it right,” she has said. “There was no question that you could just make it right. But when you’re in somebody else’s company, you don’t always have those options.”

At 23, Julie came home. She started as inventory manager and worked her way through every part of the operation: retail, service, going out on the trucks, emptying the garbage. That hands-on experience is what shaped her approach to leadership: she knows every job because she’s done every job.

Today, Julie serves as Vice President and Partner at Kazdin Pools & Spas, with ownership formally transitioning to her. She leads a team she’s deeply proud of, in a community she’s been part of her whole life.

Her philosophy is straightforward: people make mistakes, what matters is how you fix them, and whether your team leaves at the end of the day knowing they did what was right. That culture of accountability and care shows up in how Kazdin operates every single day.

Industry Recognition & Professional Involvement

The Kazdin name is well known not just in the Hamptons, but in the national pool industry. Julie was named to PoolPro Magazine’s 30 Under 40 (a recognition of the industry’s rising leaders.) She was also featured in PoolPro’s Power Women series, spotlighting her leadership, her commitment to mentorship, and her work building the profession for the next generation.

Beyond Kazdin Pools & Spas, Julie serves as Vice President of Operations at Watershape University, where she taught the organization’s very first business course. Her involvement reflects a belief she holds deeply: the pool industry deserves the same level of professionalism and education as any other trade, and she’s actively working to make that happen.

What Makes Kazdin Different

There are a lot of pool companies operating in the Hamptons. What separates Kazdin is something that’s harder to copy than equipment or pricing: it’s the way we treat the work.

We treat every property like it belongs to our own family. That means the same care, the same attention to safety, the same standards we’d want at our own home. It’s not a slogan, it’s the standard our team is held to on every single visit.

We’re not a national franchise dispatching technicians from a call center. We’re a local company with deep roots in this community, staffed by people who live and work on the East End. At peak season, our team services over 400 pools a week and every one of them gets that same level of attention.

Our clients aren’t accounts to us. They’re relationships. Many of them have been with us for decades. Some of them knew George when he was just getting started. That kind of trust is earned slowly, and we don’t take it lightly.
