How often should a pool be serviced in the Hamptons?
Weekly service is the standard for pools in active use during the Hamptons season. The combination of salt air, heavy usage, and summer heat creates chemical conditions that require consistent attention. A pool left unchecked for two or more weeks can develop algae, imbalanced pH, or cloudy water that’s both unpleasant and potentially damaging to equipment.
What does weekly pool service include?
A Kazdin weekly service visit includes vacuuming the pool floor and walls, skimming surface debris, emptying skimmer baskets, testing and balancing water chemistry, inspecting pump and filter operation, checking salt systems (if applicable), wiping down coping and deck edges.
How much does weekly pool service cost in the Hamptons?

Do I need to be home when the pool technician comes?
No. Most of our clients are not home during weekly visits. We access the pool, complete all service, and leave a detailed service log. You’ll always know exactly what was done and the current status of your water and equipment.

Do you service saltwater pools?
Yes. We maintain and service both traditional chlorine pools and saltwater pool systems throughout the Hamptons. Our technicians are trained on salt chlorine generators, cell maintenance, and the specific water chemistry requirements of saltwater pools.
Pool Opening & Closing
When do pools typically open and close in the Hamptons?
Pool openings on the East End of Long Island generally run from late April through Memorial Day weekend. Pool closings and winterization typically happen between Labor Day and mid-October. We recommend scheduling both in advance, our calendar fills quickly during these windows.
What’s involved in pool opening service?
Our spring opening service includes removing and washing the winter cover, reconnecting and inspecting equipment, testing and balancing water chemistry, checking for any damage that occurred over winter, and getting your pool clean and clear before your first swim. We do a full system check from top to bottom.
What’s involved in pool winterization/closing?
Closing service includes lowering the water level, blowing out plumbing lines, adding winterizing chemicals, inspecting and storing equipment, and properly installing your winter cover. Done correctly, winterization protects your pool from freeze damage and ensures it reopens smoothly in spring.
Pool Renovation & Remodeling
How do I know if my pool needs to be renovated?
Common signs include a rough or cracked surface that’s uncomfortable to touch, a vinyl liner that’s faded, wrinkled, or leaking, outdated or inefficient equipment, chipped or stained tile and coping, or a design that no longer fits your lifestyle or property. If your pool is more than 10–15 years old without a major update, it’s worth a consultation.
What’s the difference between pool resurfacing and pool renovation?
Resurfacing refers specifically to replacing or refinishing the pool’s interior surface (the plaster, quartz, or pebble finish) on a gunite pool, or the liner on a vinyl pool. Renovation is a broader term that can include resurfacing plus tile, coping, equipment upgrades, deck work, or structural modifications. Kazdin does all of it.
How long does pool renovation take?
A liner replacement can take a few days. Gunite resurfacing typically takes one to two weeks. More extensive renovation projects (shape changes, equipment overhauls, new tile and coping, deck work) may run three to six weeks. We provide a clear timeline in every project proposal.
What’s the best time of year to renovate a pool in the Hamptons?
Fall through early spring is ideal. Once your pool is closed for the season, renovation work can proceed without disrupting summer use. Planning in the off-season also ensures your updated pool is ready well before Memorial Day.
Do you need permits for pool renovation in Southampton?
Permit requirements depend on the scope of work and the municipality. Cosmetic work like resurfacing or liner replacement typically doesn’t require permits. Structural changes, equipment additions, or modifications to the pool’s footprint may. Can you change the shape or add features to an existing pool?
Yes. We can modify pool depth, add tanning ledges or spa sections, and install custom water features like fountains, deck jets, waterfalls, and scuppers. We’ll evaluate the existing structure and make an honest recommendation about what will work best.

What’s the difference between a gunite and a vinyl pool?
Gunite (also called concrete or shotcrete) pools are built by spraying a concrete mixture over a steel framework: they’re extremely durable, fully customizable in shape, and long-lasting. Vinyl liner pools are built with a steel or polymer frame and a fitted vinyl liner: they’re generally lower in initial cost and the liner is replaceable. Both are excellent options; Kazdin builds, maintains, and renovates both types.
